Three Forsyth County gymnasts took home top-10 honors at the Georgia High School Association state championships on April 30 at The Westminster Schools in Atlanta.
The GHSA all classification qualifier held on April 24 pitted over 160 gymnasts — representing 35 schools — vying for a chance to compete in the state finals. The top six teams and the top 12 individuals in each event and all around advanced.
Two Forsyth Central girls, senior Sarah Lamkin (beam) and junior Autumn Keller (floor), and West Forsyth freshman Marissa Villerreal (vault) qualified in individual events.
It was the fourth consecutive appearance at state for Lamkin and the first for Keller and Villerreal.
As a team, the Central Gymdogs had a strong season, winning all their meets before narrowly missing the cut for the finals and taking eighth.
This was the inaugural season of the Lady Wolverines gymnastics program, which also had a strong season.
With a year of experience under its belt, West is expected to be even better next season.
