Lambert’s tennis teams had no trouble bouncing back from losses in the Region 7-AAAA finals.

The No. 5-ranked Longhorns didn’t lose a game while defeating No. 8 Flowery Branch 3-0 in the first round of the state playoffs on Tuesday, while the No. 4-ranked Lady Longhorns also cruised to a 3-0 win against Rockdale County.

In Class AAAAA, West Forsyth’s girls suffered a 3-1 loss to No. 3 Walton.

The No. 2 seed Lambert boys (12-7) defeated No. 3 seed Flowery Branch (15-6) behind victories from Jake Bouchillon (6-0, 6-0) at 1 singles, Lincoln Metz (6-0, 6-0) at 2 singles and Andrew Hemings and Chase Watton (6-0, 6-0) at 2 doubles. Lambert’s 1 doubles team of Ben Bassel and Zubin Irani won 6-0, 6-0 right after the other doubles team finished, but the official scoring stops as soon as a team wins the third match.

The Horns face a tougher test in the second round against No. 3 Pope (16-4). The Greyhounds’ only losses this season came against Class AAAAA teams.

The No. 2 seed Lambert girls also have a date with No. 6 Pope on Tuesday.

“I think they’re a really strong team this year,” Lambert girls coach Ashley Laury said of Pope. “They’re going to be a good challenge, and we enjoy playing them.”

The Lady Horns advanced past No. 3 seed Rockdale County behind wins by Jessica Owen (6-2, 6-2) at 2 singles, Taylor Lefton and Kealee Heffner (6-0, 6-0) at 1 doubles and Sydney Topper and Morgan Adams (6-0, 6-0) at 2 doubles.

West’s girls saw their season come to an end Tuesday against Walton despite a victory at 2 singles by Emma Niemi, who, for the second year in a row, was undefeated in singles play with a record of 13-0.

Sydney Niemi and Haley Anderson were defeated at 1 doubles by Katie Riley and Jessica Cramer, Meg Moran and Ashley Evans were defeated by Erica Bauer and Emily Harte, and Megan Aligheri was defeated at 3 singles by Johanner Keeline.

Madi Umbaugh was still playing her 1 singles match when Walton clinched the victory.
