South Forsyth paced the county in the number of athletes that qualified for the state track and field championships.

The War Eagles will send a total of seven athletes, all boys, to the state meet, scheduled for May 10-12 in Jefferson. The girls will begin their competition today in Albany.

South qualifiers, who advanced out of the Class AAAA West Sectional Meet last weekend at Starr’s Mill, include Michael Scullin in the shot put (40 feet, 1.25 inches), Marquise Godbey in the 100 meters (11.54 seconds), Jake Howland in the 800 meters (2:13.10), Mitchell Francis in the 3,200 meters (10:29.21) and the 400 meter relay team of Godbey, Eddie Mirynowski, TJ Lowe and Jantzen Jeffrey.

Four Lambert athletes advanced out of the sectional last week — two boys and two girls. Trevor Grant qualified in the 1,600 (4:26.84) and the 3,200 (9:48.14) meters and has a good chance to medal in both, while Joedel Braxton qualified in the 400 meters (51.07).

Savannah Smith is also a threat to medal at the state meet, as she qualified in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 6 inches. Leanne Zimmer was the other Longhorn girl to qualify for state, running 2:20.69 in the 800 meters.

Forsyth Central will send four athletes to the state championships. Courtney Hewatt will represent the girls in the triple jump (35 feet, 3 inches).

The boys qualifiers were Jacob Nesmith in the discus (112 feet, 7 inches), Eli Jeffers in the triple jump (41 feet, 5.5 inches) and Aaron Edeus in the 400 meters (50.92).

North Forsyth will send Carlin Light and Alexis Osterloh to represent the girls at the state meet. Both advanced out of the Class AAAAA West Sectional Meet at McEachern last weekend.

Osterloh advanced in the pole vault (8 feet, 6 inches), while Light advanced in the high jump (5 feet, 2 inches). Josh Harrell advanced in the discus (139 feet, 10 inches) to represent the Raider boys.

West Forsyth had one state qualifier, Snowie Saunders in the high jump (5 feet, 2 inches).

Pinecrest Academy will send two girls and two boys to the state meet, after they advanced out of last week’s Class A West Sectional Meet at Landmark Christian Academy.

Sarah Gehling advanced in the pole vault (10 feet, 6 inches) and Jessica Zalzman advanced in the 1,600 meters (5:28.22), while Sean Klooster advanced in the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches) and Jacob Carr advanced in the pole vault (11 feet).
