Horizon Christian Academy’s boys have earned the right to play for the ICSGA state championship.

No. 2 seed Horizon defeated No. 1 seed Young American Christian School 1-0 on Tuesday evening in the Independent Christian Schools of Georgia and Alabama (ICSGA) state semifinal match in Conyers.

The Warriors needed their strongest defensive effort of the season to edge Young American.

The lone goal of the match came in the 53rd minute, when Warriors senior team captain Sung Chul Ryu passed the ball to junior team captain Andrew Winston.

Winston dribbled past two Young American defenders and placed the ball just outside the reach of the goalkeeper.

Freshman Timothy Lim, sophomore Luke Dieffenderfer and junior Nolan Kemppinen led the Warrior’s defense in the shutout.

Horizon will face Community Christian School for the state’s AA title at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at Loganville Christian School.

Horizon and Community split their two head-to-head meetings this season.
