ATLANTA — Brittany Head was a terrific starting pitcher for Forsyth Central Wednesday night, but she was an even better closer.

Head threw seven consecutive strikeouts to end the game against North Springs, securing a 4-1 victory in the Region 6-AAAA tournament at Marist.

“[North Springs is] not the best hitting team in the world, but [when] you get seven in a row to end the game, yeah that’s tough,” Bulldogs coach Bill Richardson said.

Central was the first to put a run on the board, when Caylin Davenport drove in Britni Johnson on an RBI single in the bottom of the second frame.

The Lady Spartans responded quickly with a run of their own in the top of the third, when Allie Davis stole home off of a wild pitch by Head to give North Springs their sole run.

“I think [Brittney] wasn’t really ‘on’ in her definition of being ‘on,’ but it just shows you that she’ll battle,” said Richardson.

In the bottom of the fourth, Amelia Palmer and Kayla Richards capped off the scoring efforts for the Lady Bulldogs.

Palmer knocked down a two-RBI single, sending in Johnson and Davenport, and Richards followed up with an RBI single of her own, which sent Palmer home for Central’s fourth and final run of the game.

Although the Lady Bulldogs put on a good show, Richardson said his team may not have been solely focused on the game.

“I think that we were probably looking past [North Springs] some, which is always a big mistake with anybody.

“I thought we probably could have scored more if we get a timely hit here or there,” said the coach.

“Overall, a win’s a win, we’re not going to gripe too much.”

You can’t really blame Central for looking past North Springs a bit, as a date with the Lady War Eagles of Marist was set for Thursday afternoon.

“It should be just as good as the first time we played them,” said Richardson. “
