DAWSONVILLE — It was a dominant outing for North Forsyth’s girls Wednesday, as the Lady Raiders managed three goals in each half at Dawson County, earning a 6-0 win in the process.
North coach Calter Moore said the team has focused on controlling possession this season, something which paid off against the Lady Tigers.
“Tonight we were able to convert that possession over to some offense and scoring, putting more [balls] in the back of the net, which is what we’ve been working on throughout the season and building to,” Moore said.
North improved to 6-2-1 with the victory.
The Lay Raiders didn’t have any offensive standout, as Heather Yates, Ali Fay, Jenny Bulley, Kayla Vincent, Taylor Hackney and Shelby Robinson each scored a goal.
Yates, Vincent, Hackney and Robinson had one assist each as well.
“We kind of spread the scoring around,” Moore said.
In goal, it was Laura Berry, recently signed to play at Emmanuel College (Franklin Springs), pitching a shutout.
The senior has around 50 saves this season, Moore said, but wasn’t tested much by the Tiger offense thanks to a strong ball control game from his team.
“She had one rally close [save] that she touched past the post in the first half, but after about the first 10 minutes, she didn’t see much action,” the coach said.
North’s girls now turn their attention to today’s 5 p.m. home match with South Forsyth. Following a scoreless tie with West Forsyth and with games against each of the county’s three other programs on deck, Moore said the team is still focused on winning the county championship.
